Sunny Sundays

Morning all!

Sarah and I spent yesterday updating our media plan and making extensive to-do lists for the May Spring Festival. It was so satisfying to see the ideas we have had and lessons learnt for last year coming together on the page.

Bookings continue to come in steadily and new producers are contacting us every week.

The Great Burnham Bake Off will have professional categories this Spring and we will also be crowing a winner of the Gat Burnham Brew Off - which will be farmhouse cider (we thought it best to start with what we know :-) )

We were welcomed like heroes at our local pub the other night - people locally have really embraced the food and drink festival and are looking forward to visiting the venues and warm up events we have planned.

If there is anything you would like to see more of or have a bright idea please do get in touch - we'd love to hear from you

Thanks Beverley & Sarah x

Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat...

As the festive season draws closer we are in a whirl processing the early bookings we have had for the 2013 festivals. It is fantastic to have support from the traders who had such a good days trading at our first festival. We are buzzing with ideas for 2013 - twists on The Great Burnham Bake Off and introducing the Great Burnham Brew Off; a competition for home brewers - yes, we will be needing judges!

The Somerset Farmers Market continues to bring cracking producers to the the High Street in Burnham on Sea on the last Friday of the month (9 to 1) and will be coming earlier in December on Friday 21 December so that you can stock up for Christmas. If you haven't sampled Moorland Farms exemplary beef yet, you are missing out. Beef with a story.

The High St is also taking part in a national initiative aimed at independent traders. In Burnham they have devised a Christmas crawl that takes you to 33 physical and one virtual shop hunting out the special stickers, filling up an entry/score card and being in with the chance of winning a hamper of lush local goods. Our favourite fishmonger, Seafoods www.sea-foods.co.uk is in on the act and has reported an increase in footfall with some new faces discovering his cracking fish and also that you can order your Turkey from him! (He also stocks game in season).

With very best wishes for the festive season and we wish you all a prosperous New Year,
Beverley and Sarah

Turning up the Heat

I know it is still November but we are already thinking about our Harvest time festival in September 2013. We are formulating plans and they are themed around "Turning up The Heat" we are thinking BBQ pits, mulled cider, chillies and all things HOT! What do you think? Do you know any producers that fit into this bracket that we should approach?

We are also on the look out for some live musicians that will busk/play/entertain at our festivals. If you have relatives, a favourite or a friend who you think would like some press exposure and a live audience to play in front of please ask hem to email us bosfoodfest@gmail.com with a link to their webpage/MySpace page if they have one so we can have a listen.

The Spring Festival plans are coming along nicely and we hope to have a new demo kitchen area for you to see, hear and taste some tasty dishes from chefs and producers.

We hope this dismal weather isn't getting you down - you can cheer yourself up by putting the 2013 dates in your new diary! 25 May and 28 September

Thanks
Beverley and Sarah

New blog launched

Welcome to our blog page. We will be using this space to chat about what is happening behind the screens at the festival and our other food related projects. Tell us what you think, join the mailing list, say "hi!" when you see us about town

Sparklers and fireworks are defiantly off the menu tonight as we are attending our Town Council meeting to speak in favour of a bid for support for the two 2013 festivals, our Local to Burnham branding and a Food & Drink Network that we want to launch in the Spring.

Food and drink provenance, local food and a back-to-basics approach to cooking has never been more popular. We see these projects as a way to engage with possible investors in Burnham on Sea, current business propositions and voters through their bellies. The projects give us many opportunities for sharing healthy eating messages.

But most importantly - There is not a food and drink centre to Somerset – this is an opportunity that we want Burnham on Sea can take and adopt. Other towns have successfully done this (Brighton/West Sussex, Ludlow/Shropshire, Harrogate/NorthYorkshire) Successful businesses in this sector attract others.

More soon and in the meantime put the 25 May and 28 September 2013 in your diaries.
